Day 1 Reflection

What strategies and structures that were provided to you today supported your learning?

  1. The interactive protions (there were several) supported my learning. They increased engagement and provided ideas to what is needed in my own classroom. If I enjoyed these interactive pieces, I know that my students would also respond favorably to activities like these.

  2. I'm a "do-er" so I appreciated the fact that we jumped right into Tweeting, Diigo, and Blogspot. Also, the structure of the day was very organized and the purpose was clear. The end of the day was a great chance to collaborate with teachers from other schools. I find that I work best in a social/teamwork atmosphere.

  3. Today I visited one of the BEST PD's ever. I am not only speaking of lunch, the information shared, is much needed. I am currently educating students in a society that is rich with technology, I will accept anything that anyone is willing to teach me. The instructors had a plan and a purpose. Very detailed. Love it.

  4. I am a hands on learner. I really appreciate the opportunity to use the media tools before, during and after the presentations today.

  5. As we all know, people learn in different ways. Though all modes I gather information, I retain more from actually doing. Taking the carbon footing quiz was very helpful, because it allowed me to see where I could improve my lifestyle.

Another thing that supported my learning was TOTALLY bombing the last breakout session. As a teacher, it is hard to get out of teacher mode, ESPECIALLY when I am in an educational environment with an educational agenda/purpose. So I guess I learned that Ms. Sisco is not needed all the time, sometimes DeShonda has to step up to the plate

  6. These are great comments, everyone! Thank you for being open and specific—it’s really helpful for us as designers to learn from both successes and struggles! Most of all, I’m thrilled that you all are so willing to come with us on this journey (quest!).

DeShonda/Ms. Sisco—I love how you put that!!! What a lovely way of processing and thinking this through! And even though it felt like bombing, I’m curious to talk to you tomorrow about how it has felt to work through that. I’d also love your thoughts on how we could have better supported you in making that step. I know we kept pushing back with you guys, but I hope that it took you somewhere interesting that got you thinking in a new way. That was certainly true for me!

  7. I really enjoyed the PD, its not often that you go to a PD or workshop and get hands on training. I love when we got to tweet our responses to the presenter.I am new to twitter and blogging and this was the best hands on learning experience I've had in a long time. One that I can actually use and take back to the classroom and my students will enjoy!

  8. Examples and visuals at the PD on transmedia helped me process and integrate new ideas to my current understanding about media literacy.

  9. For me it was very helpful, a little overwhelming at times, to jump into blogging and tweeting. These are two things I hear about all the time but have never participated in. I always like knowing and understanding the world around me so I am glad that participating in these activities was a must for this PD.

It was very hard for me at the end of the day on Tuesday to take off my teacher hat. But I also feel we collectively had an ah ha moment and ended the day successfully.

I appreciate all of the help we've been given, the group that is running this PD is so knowledgeable! It's wonderful! Thank you so much! Looking forward to learning more in the days to come!

  10. I appreciate the practical application as well as the teaching strategies that were employed. It is refreshing to go to a PD and feel truly involved as well as not be lectured at.

Taking a step back and looking at how students can approach a campaign, as we go through the process ourselves, is a change of pace and really helps us think about how the students are thinking as we approach a project such as this.

  11. I really enjoyed coming together as a group and trying to solve a social issue. I could definitely put myself in my student's shoes while doing this and this could be a great project idea for having the student's develop a campaign.

  12. I really learned a lot by working in the small group. Everyone brings something different to the conversation.

  13. I really enjoyed this training session. You not only taught me how to use diigo, blogs, and twitter, but gave some realistic ways how to use them in the classroom that would allow the students to solve problems and learn.
